Outreach360 is a grassroots volunteer organization that has adopted three disadvantaged neighborhoods in the northwest of the Dominican Republic and has staffed a neighborhood center in each community. Their primary focus is on education with an emphasis on English as a Second Language, Spanish literacy and public health. We stay in Monte Cristi where we will work for four days with Outreach360 to help elementary school students learn English through creative and fun activities– learn what it's like to be a language teacher! While in Monte Cristi, we hope to learn about the culture and history of the Dominican Republic by visiting the famous salt flats, the Máximo Gómez Museum, the baseball field and other community areas. We may watch a famous film about the Dominican Republic and visit the border crossing to Haiti at Dajabón, where we'll get to experience the fast-paced market life. We'll also enjoy the beautiful scenery and waves at El Morro Beach, and taste traditional Dominican cuisine. The memories made on this community service and cultural exploration adventure will last a lifetime.
