Senior Seminar

Referring to Senior Seminar, Fountain Valley's ultimate service learning experience, graduating students have commented that the School really makes you pay for your diploma in sweat.

But it's not really a complaint. Senior Seminar is a five-day trip held the week before commencement, when almost-graduates finish their FVS experience with hard work, camaraderie and bittersweet reminiscences. The experience strengthens the bonds between seniors and concludes with a final night at the Mountain Campus where they share how FVS has transformed their lives.

FVS has partnered with Salida Ranger District for Senior Senior Seminar to build more than three miles of trail and restore more than 10 acres of land in the Colorado Rocky Mountains.

"Senior Seminar gives students an opportunity to perform real physical labor on service work that will last for decades," says program coordinator Dave Reynolds. "When we walk on the trails seniors have built before us, it's a remarkable feeling."

"Senior Seminar allows the FVS seniors to finish on a note of community and selflessness. They conclude their high school careers with a bang and not a whimper."
