School Life

Community Council
The Community Council is organized and run by the student body president, vice president and secretary. Two representatives from each class are also elected. The council's purpose is to serve as a vehicle for suggestions and opinions from the student body on ways of improving improve the School.

RAs are a distinguished group of juniors and seniors selected by FVS faculty to help run the dorms along with house directors. RAs are responsible for helping the house run smoothly and for creating a cohesive house community. They help plan house activities and assist in house meetings, and they supervise one evening each week in the house.

Admission Ambassadors (Gold Key)

Admission Ambassadors are a select group who assist the Admission Office by serving as campus tour guides for prospective families visiting the School. In addition, they also participate in panel discussions on Visiting Days, call prospective students to answer questions and occasionally host overnight visitors in the residence halls.

Honor Council
The Honor Council provides a fair and consistent discipline process that involves the student body and includes the community in the decision-making process. The School community annually elects members of the Honor Council, which is composed of one male and one female student, as well as one female and one male faculty member.

Varsity Club
The Varsity Club is composed of student-elected varsity athletes for the purpose of improving relations between FVS and other schools, developing leadership skills, encouraging good sportsmanship and fostering Dane pride.

Froelicher Society
The Froelicher Society is Fountain Valley School’s academic honor society, named for the School’s founding headmaster. Students named to the Froelicher Society have demonstrated a curiosity about learning, a willingness to go well beyond the basic requirements of the subject and a consistent capacity for independent work. Froelicher Society members are designated by the faculty as exemplars of academic behavior and serve as role models for other students and offer tutoring to other students at no charge. New members are inducted twice yearly in an All-School ceremony and receive a Froelicher Society pin.

International Students Program
This group, composed of students who live abroad—both non-U.S. citizens and U.S. citizens—gives mutual support and offers programs designed to celebrate our diversity and to heighten cultural awareness throughout the FVS community.

Peer Leaders
Peer leaders are trained in listening skills and peer mediation, and serve as resources for other students when they need guidance. They work with other student leaders to help create a healthy community. The peer leaders each work with a specific group of freshman students as they transition to FVS through a series of seminars on student life topics. Additionally, they help faculty incorporate wellness activities into the weekend program.

Student Cultural Organization (SCO)
The Student Cultural Organization (SCO) celebrates diversity and welcomes students of all races, cultures and backgrounds. SCO focuses on promoting diverse cultures and ethnicities, as well as celebrating differences, which make every student at FVS unique. SCO members organize activities throughout the year such as Unity Day, which is a full-day of student-led workshops sharing their uniqueness, culture and diversity.

Student Weekend Activity Team
This student committee is selected from boarding and day student applicants each year. It convenes weekly and assists in setting the schedule for weekend activity programming.
