Islamophoobia expert and award-winning author Edward Curtis will give a lecture and workshop on anti-Muslim racism. In this lecture, Curtis will explore the historical roots of Islamophobia, examine its alarming rise in contemporary America, and brainstorm how Colorado College can challenge anti-Muslim animus.
Throughout history, photographs and images have had the power to galvanize the public in ways words could not, from the Civil Rights struggles in the South to the horrors of a war.
On Dec. 4, two Colorado College alumns, Josh Raab '11 and Katie Orlinsky '05, working for National Geographic— as the magazine’s director of Instagram and a contributing photojournalist, respectively— will showcase the power of photography to document how climate change affects the relationship between people, wildlife, and land.
“My photography focuses on stories about the everyday lives of people in extreme situations to capture the intimate moments of daily life behind an issue,” Orlinksy says.
