English Riders Head to Nationals

Brooke Dashiell '19
This past Friday, eight member of the Fountain Valley IEA Team and their three coaches boarded a plane from Colorado Springs to Phoenix, AZ to compete in the Zone 8 IEA Finals.
The girls would compete Saturday, individually, and then Sunday as a team -against twelve other top qualifying teams- for a spot to compete at Nationals in Harrisburg, PA. Only a first-place finish would allow them to move on.

Saturday was the individual competition. Lizzie Haghighi '20 competed in the Varsity Flat, finishing 3rd. Michaela Edwards '19 qualified in the Varsity Over Fences had a solid ride, but did not place. Next in the ring was Ellen Haghighi '22 who placed 7th for Varsity Intermediate Over Fences, followed shortly by Brooke Dashiell '19 who won class. Mia Parsons '21 was the final individual rider to go, but despite a good ride did not place. Brooke Dashiell will advance as an individual at Nationals in the Varsity Intermediate O/F.

Sunday was team day and the pressure was on; the day began again in the Varsity Open where Lizzie Haghighi represented FVS in both the over fences and flat portion. She placed 8th O/F and took home 1st on the Flat, earning FVS a strong start with seven points. Next up were our Varsity Intermediate Representatives: Ellen Haghighi, who would place 7th over fences, and Brooke Dashiell would, once again, win blue (1st) in the Flat division, stacking on another solid 7 points.

After schooling, Konami Ogino '20 would do FVS proud in the JV Beginner Flat and a 7th place finish. The last division of the day was the JV Intermediate where Shirley Song '21 and Mia Parsons would pull two fantastic rides for FVS with a 5th over fences, by Shirley, and a nail-biting 1st-place-finish on the flat by Mia Parsons that pushed Fountain Valley School into the lead – and onward to Nationals!
