College Counseling

Just as FVS founding headmaster Francis Froelicher believed that FVS students should “write their own histories,” the philosophy of the College Counseling program is to help students discover their own unique strengths, interests and values and to identify colleges of sound “fit.”
As FVS is a diverse community with students from varied backgrounds, identities and experiences, there is no “one size fits all” approach to the college process. As a staff, we respond to the individual needs of the student, and we guide, recommend and counsel through a process that is all too often overwhelming and stressful. We value communication and openness with our students and families while placing the student at the center of a process that we deem to be a necessary step for all developing adolescents. When students have a strong understanding of their own strengths, interests and values, they make sound decisions and find the best college fit.
