The varsity girls cross country team continued their stellar season at the CHSAA 2A State Championship Meet on Saturday, October 26, 2019. With the race finish held inside the Penrose Event Center and the rest covering trails in Bear Creek Park, it made for both an exciting and familiar course. Saturday’s weather was near perfect for racing, fitting right between the snowstorms of Thursday and Sunday.
Having run terrific races their last two times out, the girls were looking to build on their recent success. With multiple training days spent on the hills of Bear Creek Park, the girls set off with 118 other runners on the well-known course. Out aggressively and running tough through the finish line, three of the six girls ran all-time personal bests, with another two hitting season bests.
Freshman Jessie Prantl led the way in 37th place. Fellow freshman Natalie Haase was next in 75th place, followed by co-captains Lisbet Jackson ’21 and Kitty Zhang ’20 in 87th and 96th. Sophomores Tenzin Dothar and Abby Lin each ran their best race of the year to round out the team result. It was an especially satisfying day for Kitty who helped to lead the girls back to the state meet after a two-year hiatus by running personal best times in four consecutive races, including at the state meet on her 18th birthday.
