As the 2018-2019 school year comes to a close, the FVS riders headed up to Hanna Ranch to have one last dinner together. Hanna Ranch is located on the edge of Fountain Creek and is spread over thousands of acres of gorgeous grasslands and rolling hills. The team pulled up to the ranch in awe. Coach Hanna’s house, situated atop a hill, was accompanied by an old adobe barn that she and her husband built years ago. Those of us who have never visited her ranch before were ecstatic.
For dinner, we grilled up all-natural, grass-fed beef burgers accompanied with fresh corn, homemade lemon bars, and cupcakes. As we ate, we reminisced about all of the incredible times from this past season. From winning Zones, going to Nationals, to the countless hours of practice; this season has been one of the best. Each and every rider gave it their all and we couldn’t be more appreciative of everyone on the team, including our amazing coaches.
Michaela Edwards ’19, our incredible horseman, gave out awards towards the end of the night; comparing each rider to one of our equally stellar horses.
In addition to closing the season with a team dinner at Hanna Ranch, a few girls on the team headed up to a CHJA (Colorado Hunter Jumper Association) show Saturday, May 11 and Sunday, May 12 in Littleton, Colorado. Campbell Brown ’22, Liv Proctor ’21, Shirley Song ’21, Louise Teichmann ’21, Mia Parsons ’21, and Sakura Ido ’19 headed up on Saturday, while Michaela Edwards ’19, Grace Everitt ’19, Konami Ogino ’20, and I headed up on Sunday. Despite a few rails here and there, as usual, everybody rode beautifully and it was a great way to end the show season.
I am excited to continue writing From the Horse’s Mouth and I look forward to keeping everyone up-to-date on the happenings of the barn throughout the next year!
