Strength & Conditioning
DEVELOPING LIFETIME FITNESS AND WELL-BEING
Fountain Valley School staff recognize that movement is medicine and that the therapeutic effects of exercise augment the learning experience in the classroom. Fortunately, there are many ways for students to work through resistance and expand their capacities at FVS. The Athletic Department offers a wide range of afternoon activities and clubs, including Strength & Conditioning. Each program is designed to help students stay active and engaged in their physical growth beyond the classroom.
About the Program
The Strength & Conditioning program introduces students to theories and practices of strength training and metabolic conditioning to improve fitness, health, and overall wellness. Participants acquire the knowledge and skills needed to perform safe and effective strength and conditioning sessions. They learn the basic principles of anatomy and physiology, strength training techniques, exercise modifications, how to develop personal strength training programs, and current fitness trends.
Students in FVS’s Strength & Conditioning program utilize the School’s outdoor athletic fields and courts along with Fountain Valley’s world-class Julie and Spencer Penrose Athletic Center. The latter is an outstanding 60,000+ square-foot complex complete with an eight-lane, 25-meter swimming and diving pool, 21-bike spin room, a 6,000-square-foot climbing gym with 37-foot walls and auto-belay systems, and a weight room outfitted with Hammer Strength equipment, Life Fitness Treadmills, Concept II Rowing ergometers, Cybex ARC, and Life Fitness ellipticals.
