Attending Fountain Valley School broadened Kaleb’s perspective of the world beyond his hometown in Colorado Springs, and prepared him for the next chapter of his academic journey at Cornell University. As a high school student in the American West, Kaleb engaged with a community of boarding students from around the globe, experienced learning in real life at remote historical sites, and refined his leadership skills with support from passionate and knowledgeable faculty.
What surprised you most about Fountain Valley School?
The close-knit community of peers and teachers who are always willing to help and the passion and breadth of knowledge that FVS teachers provide. They made learning fun through their excitement to teach and genuine interest in their subject.
How did FVS shape you from when you first enrolled to when you graduated?
Fountain Valley School helped me to come out of my shell and find myself. Attending school here gave me opportunities to explore and create adventures I wouldn’t have had otherwise. I was also fortunate to become involved in many roles and activities that helped me curate and refine my leadership skills.
What do you consider the greatest part about attending Fountain Valley School? Why?
The greatest part about attending FVS was traveling the world and learning in different environments. Getting to study and learn about history in the place it occurred is incredibly meaningful and impactful. These opportunities made me eager to learn and inspired me to explore and adventure.
Why do you feel that attending a boarding school was the right decision for you?
Attending a boarding school allowed me to think in a more global perspective and learn about and meet people from a multitude of vastly different backgrounds.
In brief, how would you explain FVS and our community to someone who has never heard of the school?
Fountain Valley is a home away from home. It has its own little ecosystem that allows students to grow, flourish, and prosper with all of the support you could ever need.
Did your relationship with faculty and staff positively affect your experience? If so, how?
Yes, having such a compassionate and encouraging support system made all the late nights, homework, and other obstacles much more feasible and fulfilling. FVS teachers are always available and willing to help, and continuously ask how they can assist.
