ESL Programs

Each year FVS enrolls between 18-21 students in its ESL program. These boarding students come to Colorado from such countries as Thailand, Mexico, Korea, China and Japan. The ESL program provides the opportunity for non-native English speakers to attend an accredited American college prep school. Courses offered include: ESL 2 and 3, ESL Biology and ESL U.S. and World History. ESL students live in integrated dorms and participate in afternoon activities with non-ESL students.
The director of ESL also operates a summer program to welcome incoming international students who seek to get a head start on their experience at Fountain Valley School. These students benefit from this time to acclimate to their surroundings, recover from jet lag and adjust to the athletic demands of FVS.
Most days during the program, students will participate in Western ecology classes, English classes and sports. Students will be exposed to learning strategies that will help them to adapt to the American education system. They will also appreciate the role that cultural values and norms play in our lives and work on ways to “bridge the gap” between cultures.
