FVS Musician Selected for All-State Orchestra

Sophomore Juliet Chi will play the viola in the Colorado All-State Orchestra this February.

Fountain Valley School of Colorado sophomore musician Juliet Chi (Pueblo) has been selected to play viola in the 65th Annual Colorado All State Symphonic Orchestra, Feb. 9-11, in Fort Collins.
Chi submitted an audition recording for the selection committee.
“I had to submit a recording of me playing a three octave major and minor scale as well as a chromatic scale,” Chi said. “Then, I was required to play two excerpts of pieces they deemed properly difficult. Lastly, I had to submit my own two-minute solo piece, and I decided on Telemann's Viola Concerto, 2nd Movement.”
Chi added that the ability to do the audition at home without the scrutiny of a judging panel eased her nerves.
Albuquerque Youth Symphony Artistic Director Sayra Siverson will conduct the symphonic orchestra. The scheduled repertoire (subject to change) includes works by Karel Butz, Michael Mauldin, Jose Pablo Moncayo and Dmitry Kabalevsky.

“I am very enthusiastic for this new experience and am looking forward to the performance in February,” said Chi, who also participates in the FVS String Ensemble under Cynthia Robinson.
