Get ready to laugh as the Fountain Valley School of Colorado Theater Department performs “It Runs in the Family” by Ray Cooney for Fall Family Weekend.
Written in 1989, the farce is set in a hospital with assorted mistaken identities, slamming doors and nutty situations. Lloyd Chinn ’18 plays the hapless Dr. Mortimer, whose life takes an unexpected turn right before he plans to give a major speech. Chinn, who stole scenes as Caldwell B. Cladwell in last winter’s production of “Urinetown,” plays off FVS theater veteran Danny Capp ’17 in his role of Dr. Hubert Bonney.
Theater Director Hollie Marine said having Chinn and Capp in leading roles has benefited the rest of the cast.
“Lloyd and Danny have stepped into these roles with a tremendous amount of work ethic, and they have set the tone for an incredibly positive and fun-loving cast,” she said. “They are both incredibly inclusive with the underclassmen and newcomers.”
Senior Mallorie Clayton takes on the female lead of Jane Tate with tenacity, and Marine said Clayton can be seen around campus studying her lines every free moment. Mattie Gallagher ’17 is also setting a wonderful example for the cast in her role as Rosemary Mortimer.
“She has made leaps and bounds in her role,” Marine said. “She can be seen doing jumping jacks backstage before she enters, and she regularly shows up early to rehearsal to set up the furniture.”
The cast is focused, hard-working and earnest in their hopes to show audiences a good time. The play is set for Oct. 7-8 at 7:30 p.m., in the Performing Arts Center.
