Freshmen Five majors—one course each from English, mathematics, history, science and languages Freshman Arts Freshman Transitions—an interdisciplinary course designed to help guide new students through their first year, giving them a foundation for success at FVS.
Sophomores Five majors—one course each from English, mathematics, history, science and languages Human Development One arts or technology elective
Juniors Five majors—Each semester, juniors must take a major course in English and at least three other major courses in the following academic areas: history, science, mathematics and languages. Arts and technology major courses may be taken as a fifth major.
Seniors Five majors—Fall semester: Seniors must take English and at least three other major courses in the following academic areas: history, mathematics, science and languages. Arts and technology major courses may be taken as a fifth major.
Five majors—Spring semester: Seniors take English and at least two other major courses in two different non-arts and non-technology disciplines: history, mathematics, science and languages. Arts and technology major courses may be taken as the fourth and fifth majors. Credits Twenty major course credits are required to graduate.
Required Program of Study by Department
English Four credits–every semester
History Three-and-a-half credits, including Global Studies for entering freshmen or a non-Western history course (e.g., World History, Geography) for students entering after the freshman year, World Societies, U.S. History and one senior history elective.
Science Three credits in science, one of which must be in biology
Mathematics Three credits of secondary school math courses. High school level classes taken before ninth grade do not fulfill the FVS requirements. All students must successfully complete Algebra II.
Languages Completion of the third level of one language
Fine Arts In addition to Freshman Arts, one credit in the arts distributed across both visual and performing arts is required
Technology One-half credit of technology
Other Requirements Physical Education (every season through the Afternoon Program) Human Development Interim–every year Community service–every year |
